How to Keep Your Freshly Installed Luxury Carpets as Good as New

Despite having used the best carpet installers and having taken every step to prevent spills and accidents from happening, your elegant luxury carpets will eventually be subjected to wear and tear, including spills.

Read on to learn how to deal with such spills and to ensure that your freshly installed carpets are kept as good as new.

Deal with Spills Promptly

Never scoop or dig into a stain; it will only worsen it. If the stain contains solids, use a teaspoon or blunt knife to scrape these towards the centre of the spot, then use a clean kitchen towel for removal. Only then should you treat the remainder of the stain. The secret is to treat the stain as soon as possible. If you act quickly, you will be more likely to remove it completely. The longer you wait, the more time for the chemical reaction to take place. Considering that the installers only recently installed your new carpet, you don’t want to ruin your investment.

Most stains can be removed using only water, so this should be your first course of action. Use a dry and clean white towel to cover the stain. This will help to absorb the liquid. You may have to repeat the process a few times. Once done, use clean water and a damp white cloth to blot the spot. Don’t rub! Only blot. You may have to change the towels several times. Finally, make use of a fan to speed up the drying process if the spot is very wet. If not, let it air dry. If the stain is stubborn, you can use a bit of club soda and repeat the process.

Prevention is Better Than Cure

Buy rugs and runners for the areas where spills are likely to occur. It is certainly more cost-effective to replace a rug than having to call the carpet installers to replace the carpet. Rugs can also be placed in high-traffic areas such as the hallway, in the living room in front of the furniture, next to beds, and at the entrance hall.

Place a Welcome Mat at the Door

Place mats at the entrances to the home. In this way, you can have dirt and soil trapped in the mats instead of being brought into the house and onto the carpets.

Regular Vacuuming Removes Trapped Dirt

Keep the carpets fresh and looking brand-new through regular vacuuming. Dirt left in the carpet fibre will damage it when stepped upon and this will affect the appearance. If left for too long, the carpet will eventually have a dull appearance. Regular vacuuming thus helps to prolong the beauty of carpets.

Choose Cleaning Products Carefully and Have Your Carpets Cleaned Professionally

Though carpet powder is effective in removing odours, it also leaves a residue if used too often and you will only notice it when the carpet is deep-steam-cleaned. Have the carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year, depending on the amount of traffic that the area is subjected to. In a commercial environment you may need to do so every six months.
